David Collum Sr. was born on July 17, 1963, in Chicago, Illinois, to Roscoe and Eloise Collum. The third of four children — with one older brother and two younger sisters — David grew up in a household where hard work and family loyalty were simply how things were done. He graduated from Calumet High School in 1981, a milestone that would set the course for everything that followed.
From the Army to a Lifelong Marriage
In August 1981, just months after graduating high school, David joined the U.S. Army as a vehicle mechanic. That December, he married his neighborhood sweetheart, Sabrina Jones. More than four decades later, their marriage has produced five children and nine grandchildren — a family built alongside a career that would eventually lead them overseas.
A Turning Point in 1985
David came to know Jesus Christ as his personal savior in 1985. It was a defining moment that reshaped the direction of his life — and within two years, he felt a clear call into the preaching ministry
Answering the Call
Called to the preaching ministry in 1987, David spent the next several years — from 1987 through 1990 — being trained for ministry. In 1993, he was ordained as an elder in the Church of God in Christ (COGIC), formalizing a calling he had already been living out for years.
A Pastorate Born on a U.S. Army Base
David’s first pastorate began on a U.S. Army base in Heilbronn, Germany — a fitting bridge between his years of military service and his life in ministry. His Army career officially concluded in 1992, but the lessons of discipline, service, and steadiness carried directly into his work as a pastor and shepherd of God’s people.
